Interaction with WeRide
The pilot project would not be possible without strong interaction and cooperation on many levels. During a public tender, one of the leading companies in the automated mobility sector WeRide was selected as the technology provider. WeRide possesses a fully developed and thoroughly tested technology, meets all of the legal and safety requirements in place at Zurich Airport and guarantees that it will meet the data protection requirements set out by Zurich Airport Ltd. The RoboBus, which will be used at Zurich Airport, has already been successfully tested by WeRide and its European partner Renault on Parisian roads and in other projects around the world. For the tender, Zurich Airport Ltd. worked closely with the Swiss Transit Lab (STL), a network for intelligent mobility in Switzerland.
Strong collaboration
The pilot project is being led by the ZRH Innovation Hub. However, this would not have been possible without the active support of countless colleagues from the various departments. For example, we are supported with expertise on many issues such as cybersecurity, data protection, safety and security, and cloud services, to name but a few.
We also rely on strong partners for our operations. In addition to the colleagues from Zurich Airport Ltd.’s own bus service, an external mobility company will help us operate the shuttle buses by supplying personnel.
Insights into the future of automated vehicles
The pilot project will make it possible to gain important insights into the use of autonomous technologies, thus allowing for a comprehensive set of rules to be developed for the safe and efficient operation of self-driving vehicles. With the aim of developing similar pioneering mobility solutions, Zurich Airport Ltd. is working closely with other airports – such as Brussels and Amsterdam – that are also testing technologies for automated vehicles. The first trips of the RoboBus are scheduled for the start of the second quarter.
Data protection
According to EU and Swiss data protection regulations, all data collected from autonomous vehicles must be anonymised and kept strictly confidential. These measures ensure that personal information is not passed on, misused or stored inappropriately. Users can therefore rest assured that their privacy is protected when interacting with AV services.
