Building administration –airport planning applications

Some work in the airport grounds, in particular on the runways, taxiways and aprons, can only be carried out at night when airport operations come to a halt.

A permit for temporary night-time and/or Sunday work from the Canton Zurich Office for Economy and Labour requires proof of an urgent need for this work (Art. 17 para. 3 of the Employment Act, EmpA). In accordance with Art. 27 of Ordinance 1 to the Employment Act (EmpO 1), there is an urgent need if:

• additional work is necessary at short notice which cannot be postponed and which cannot be handled during the day and during weekdays with either planning means or organisational measures;
• work can only be carried out at night or on Sunday for reasons of public safety or security.

Delays in the construction process do not constitute an urgent need. Applications must be submitted at least 10 working days before the start of the working hours to be approved.
