For petrolheads –vehicle work environment

Our automobile mechatronics technicians and automotive technicians are primarily trained in the field of commercial vehicles, conducting system tests and diagnostic work on a wide variety of vehicles: passenger buses, vehicles used for maintenance and runway and winter services, trucks, tractors and passenger cars.

They carry out maintenance and repair work on engines, drive systems, chassis and electronics, ensuring the operational readiness of more than 500 individual motor, passenger and commercial vehicles at Flughafen Zürich AG.

Basic training as an automobile mechatronics technician or an automotive technician lasts four and three years respectively. Automobile mechatronics technicians attend the Wetzikon technical college (ZH) for 1½ days a week in the first three apprenticeship years and one day a week in the 4th year, while automotive technicians attend it for 1½ days a week in the first year and one day a week in the 2nd and 3rd years. Practical work and classroom tuition are complemented by inter-company courses. If your academic performance is good enough you can attend vocational college during your basic training.

• Automobile mechatronics technician: completed primary and secondary school, upper level
• Automotive technician: completed primary and secondary school, intermediate level
• Interest in electrical equipment, electronics, mechanics and a high degree of technical understanding
• Enjoyment of the latest technical trends and technical challenges
• Experience of repairing motor vehicles (mopeds, passenger cars, agricultural vehicles, etc.)
• Pronounced logical abstract thinking and imagination skills
• Quick on the uptake, endurance, good physical condition
