New Car Park near Balsberg Station
The parking spaces at Zurich Airport are nearly fully occupied during peak times. Despite the increasing use of public transportation, the anticipated rise in local passengers will further exacerbate the shortage of parking spaces. To address this, new parking facilities for passengers and employees will be developed in the southern part of the airport near Balsberg Station with the construction of Car Park P9 in the Oberhau area. Additionally, the new Car Park P9 will consolidate the existing car rental center (currently located in Car Park 3) with the off-airport rental car preparation sites, thus eliminating the need for shuttle trips for vehicle preparation.
Integration of Airside Parking Areas
In addition to landside-accessible parking spaces, the new car park will include airside-accessible parking areas for operational vehicles. This is particularly needed due to ongoing construction activities related to the replacement of Dock A, which will result in the loss of existing parking facilities.
Early Planning Phase
The Car Park P9 Oberhau project is currently in an early planning phase. The next steps involve commissioning a general contractor to comprehensively plan and execute the construction project, as well as developing the preliminary project and preparing the necessary documents for the planning approval application.
