Fee adjustment –Airport ID card

According to national and international regulations (Art. 108a para. 1 in conjunction with Art. 108b LFG), all persons with access to the security area of an airport must pass an Enhanced Background Check (EBC) since December 31, 2021, which must be repeated annually. Zurich Airport is also affected by this. This extended and annually recurring admissibility check of airport ID card holders leads to additional costs, which is why the admission fees at Zurich Airport are being adjusted. For this adjustment, an ordinary publication was made on February 23, 2023, in accordance with Art. 46 Para. 1 of the Ordinance on Airport Charges (FGV).  

Due to the adjustment of the fee schedule for airport ID cards, an annual fee is now due per ordered or active ID card. The new annual billing of access fees for airport ID cards allows for usage-based billing. 

Only the "airport ID card" product is affected by the fee increase.  
For all other products, the billing will not change. 

When an application for an airport ID card is submitted to the ZRH Center (order), a fee of CHF 60 is charged. The fee of CHF 60 entitles the holder to use the airport ID card for up to one year. If the airport ID card is still required and not returned, a fee of CHF 60 will be charged again at the end of the year (12 months). This regulation takes place annually until the return of the airport ID card. The maximum validity period of 5 years remains.
Invoices will continue to be sent with the respective quarterly invoice of ID cards, i.e. all new orders as well as ID cards that have not been returned on the last day of validity will be listed together in the quarterly invoice.

Billing airport ID cards  

Example: Airport ID card 01.01.2024 - 31.12.2028 (5 years)  

*To stop re-billing, the airport ID card would need to be returned on 31.12.2024.

In this example, the bills are sent after the end of the first quarter (April 2024, April 2025, April 2026, April 2027, and April 2028).

For orders before 01.04.2023, there is also the requirement of an annual Enhanced Background check (EBC) of the ID card holder (see point 1.) For this reason, the current annual fee of CHF 60 will also be charged. This also applies if a one-time fee of CHF 70 was charged prior to this.  
                                                                                                
Example: Airport ID card 01.06.2020 - 31.05.2025 (5 years)

A share credit is not possible. If an airport identification card is only used for a few months, the annual fee is owed in full.
